David Annwn’s poetry reveals a long-term interest in the work of women writers, artists and performers, notably Mina Loy and Maya Deren. His book Bela Fawr’s Cabaret explores the stage careers of Marya Delvard and Elsa von Freytag Loringhoven.. His DADADOLLZ with Christine Kennedy, is a performance-text involving the mannikins of Emmy Hennings, Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Hannah Höch. He was conference assistant at the Claude Cahun exhibition at Leeds City Gallery. The San Francisco video artist, Howard Munson has created a film of Annwn’s poem ‘Jeu de Marseilles’ featuring descriptions of Tarot cards designed by Jacqueline Lamba and Dorothea Tanning’s painting ‘Ernst in a Blue Boat.’
With Tom Cheesman, John Goodby co-translated State of Emergency / État d’Urgence by the Algerian poet Soleïman Adel Guèmar (Arc, 2007), which won a PEN Writers in Translation programme award. He has also translated Heinrich Heine’s Deutschland. Ein Wintermärchen / Germany: A Winter’s Tale (Smokestack, 2005), and with Carlota Caulfield he co-edited No Soy Tu Musa / I’m Not Your Muse (Ediciones Torremozas, 2008), the first anthology of contemporary Irish women’s poetry in Spanish translation. His collages – initially inspired by the 2022 Eileen Agar retrospective at Leeds City Art Gallery – have featured in various exhibitions and journals, The Fortnightly Review, Golden Handcuffs Review and Maintenant among them.
